I had some good sensations in the legs tonight on my road race workout in Ft Ord. I want to work harder, ride faster, and improve my pedaling on the road bike.
Pedaled for 5 hours on Saturday. I felt ok on the Saturday morning ride. Not great, but not horrible. Most times directly following the Sea Otter Classic I am fully bonked down and have no energy. But I paced myself this year and the legs feel ready to pedal more, and more, and more. I was at the front of the "A" climb and won the sprint. Sunday will be some serious leg spinning for 2 hours.
I am very happy that the Sea Otter Classic is over for 2008. Now I can focus on some road racing, and some serious road training. I have two more months of Mtn Bike races, then my road season begins. I will train hard on the road during May and June, trying to get ready for some road race action.
I believe in my riding ability. I believe I must ride as the ultimate fighter or not ride at all. I ride because I love to attack. I love to battle as hard as possible just to hold a wheel. And I love to reach deep within myself to draw the courage and strength to simply try my very hardest.
The course got really sketchy and loose in all the turns, as the dirt was so dry and the race day temperature was so hot. I really liked the challenge and it was a perfect event to race and practice my DH skills on the MTB. I picked up 3 wins on the day and was very thankful for this!
All I had was the spinning of the legs on the climb. No power, no strength, no lungs, just a spin. If it was not for my spinning of the legs while climbing and my DH ability I would have been last place~
But to keep fighting when everything was going wrong is what it really is all about!
Toro Park is a true classic for a MTB race. Serious hills with some very good DH sections. The racing is for sure going to be action packed. I want to climb my best and keep relaxed and enjoy the pain of suffering uphill. The DH sections I own, and on the uphills I want to keep the legs super spinning.
I was super sore in the legs from racing on Sunday, but dug deep and won the Tuesday night Ft Ord session. It was the biggest group of riders for 2008, so this was a nice time to cross the finish line first. When the attacks came I had to fight hard and stay focused on my pedaling. I made the key break of the elite riders, then started feeling really good as the session came to a close. It was nice to win the sprint!
