Hill Climb

Sunday it was 2 scouting trips up Mt. San Bruno. The hill climb race is this week and I know it will hurt, but I must be prepared to suffer without giving in to the pain of the effort.

Training Week

I had a strong week of training, but lacked snap when it mattered on the Saturday morning ride. I had steady riding during the week, some good rest days, and felt I was ready to climb. Yet when it mattered most I could not accelerate. I will keep working to improve. I did 5 hours on Saturday & 75 miles. Then Sunday I will scout the Mt San Bruno hill climb course.

Work

I will continue to work on improving riding uphill. My climbing will improve, because I will continue to work on my spinning, my cadence, my power output, and my core strength.

Rest

I am focusing on rest now. I want to ride, but need to take a step off the bike and take a step forward in getting recovered. My legs feel great and really ready to spin.

Night Ride

It was 2 hours 30 minutes tonight on the Tuesday ride. I worked on spinning the legs when climbing, and keeping a high cadence. I need rest now, as my legs are pretty worked over after back to back days of long rides with high cadence spinning.

TODAY

Today it was 3 hours and 30 minutes on the Road bike. Lots of spinning of the cranks and 90+ RPM. My legs feel ready to attack and ready to ride so smooth spinning uphill. I will continue to work on climbing and feeling relaxed when going uphills.

Day Off

I wanted to race this Sunday, but my legs were sore and so I needed a day off. To keep strong, sometimes I have to back off and get some forced rest. Now I will be able to get some good riding and training in the next week leading into the end of the year. Then Jan. 1st is the Mt. San Bruno hill-climb.

Legs Turning Over

I felt really tight in the legs on the Saturday morning ride. My muscles felt spent. Still I was right at the front of the group at the top of the climb. Then my legs felt really bad, and did not want to turn over. I will keep working on my climbing and take the good with the bad.

Desire To Improve

Felt pretty sore in the legs after 2 races on Sunday. The rain and the cold made the race one of the best so far this Cyclocross season. I want to keep improving and continue to develop my leg speed. I want to keep working on bringing my fitness to a whole new level.

CCCX #6

It will be CCCX #6 this Sunday in Ft Ord. The course is one of the very best. It has strength tests, technical tests and is fun to ride. I am so stoked to race on this course.

Up Hill

I posted my fastest time ever up the B climb on the Tuesday night ride. I set the pace steady at the bottom half, kept the legs really spinning in the middle portions, and drilled the finish part. It was a good workout and fun to test myself going up hill.

Training & Recovery

It was 2 hours of recovery riding today on the Road. I am noticing my leg speed dramatically improving. I am ready to race very hard.

Under Geared

I tried hard today at the B.A.S.P. Final. I did select too small a gear and it really cost me on the flat portions of the course as my legs were really spinning out. It was a important lesson to learn. I also had a very untimely crash that set me back. I definitely need to keep upright or I can not expect to have good results.

Fitness

I can feel the fitness and form coming on. My broken rib is much better and my hard work will lead me to how I want to ride.

Inner Strength

Self belief is one of the most important keys to racing strong. You must be confident and believe in yourself.

Cross

It is the thick of Cross season now. The most important time to be healthy and ready to race. A few things I am working on is my spinning technique and leg turn over when pedaling, my core strength, and proper recovery and rest.

Improvement

I am making improvement on my form. All the work I do on my technique and riding style leads me to consistently improving in my racing.

Strong Work

It was 50 miles tonight on the road bike riding with the Tuesday night group. I pedaled very strong and put forth a lot of work during the ride. I attacked the climb, and I attacked many times in the final portions of the ride. It was some strong work on the bike.

Set Up

I set myself up for a possible win at the B.A.S.P. race at Golden Gate Park. I was exactly where I needed to be after some very hard riding for the first 5 laps. I felt relaxed and was in the lead group. Then I had a mistake which lost me crucial time. I will make sure to correct this type of error. I know I will again set myself up for a win. My form is coming on better then ever and I know I can dig extremely deep during the race. I enjoy the pain of the efforts.
